DEFINITIONS OF DEAF-BLINDNESS

Deaf-Blind is an umbrella term used to describe people who have some form of a combined vision and hearing loss. Living with these conditions is living with a disability, which often inhibits or prevents access to communication, visual and auditory information and travel in various community environments. Individual Support Services Providers (SSPs) are para-professionals who are specially trained and then matched with various individuals who are deaf-blind to assist them to overcome the obstacles of communication access, information access and safe and efficient travel within community settings. ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGIES

Assistive Technology (AT) for Individuals Who Are Either Deaf-Blind or for Have a Combined Vision & Hearing Loss are any technologies that will provide one with the visual and/or auditory information which would normally be obtained through the use of one's vision or hearing senses.
